LCG recently re-issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for two undeveloped properties adjacent to the Buchanan Garage in Downtown Lafayette. Back in 2018, a previous RFP included the garage, which would have made a for a costly project that was ultimately scrapped by LCG. Though, according to DDA, the Parish Council recently voted to allocate $3.5 million to renovate the garage.
“This commitment to funding infrastructure improvements resulted in a more market-friendly RFP. We are hopeful it will be more attractive to the development community and garner responses that meet the priorities of the Downtown Action Plan.” — Downtown Development Authority
The new RFP will allow for the construction of two multi-family buildings with up to 90 units. With Downtown parking being a topic of conversation, LCG commits to providing access to up to 100 parking spaces in the garage for tenant use. As the Downtown area continues to grow commercially, even through a pandemic, it is also important for improvements and additions that include residential to continue as well.
“These prime parcels in the heart of the city and parish’s central business district, coupled with adjacent adequate parking for residential development, present a game-changing opportunity for the city and parish of Lafayette.”
Developers that are interested in participating are asked to contact the Downtown Development Authority office so that they can share more about what’s happening in Downtown Lafayette and to respond with a proposal. Notification of intent to propose is due November 2, 2020. The deadline for RFP responses is January 4, 2021 at 4:30 p.m. CST.
