Legends Bar & Grill has officially opened its newly constructed 4401 Johnston Street location, replacing its former spot at 4559 Johnston Street next to McDonald’s.
The new Legends was first announced in 2025 and was constructed by STELLCO Construction as part of Legends’ ongoing strategy of building and owning its own locations rather than leasing existing commercial spaces. The building includes approximately 3,000 square feet of indoor space along with a 2,100-square-foot patio split between front- and side-facing outdoor seating areas.

While the overall layout shares similarities with the Legends location in Scott, the Johnston Street space introduces several design elements unique to this location. The most noticeable is the large curved bar that serves as the centerpiece of the space. According to Legends, the curved design was intentional, allowing guests seated around the bar to more easily see and talk with others several seats away, creating a more social experience than a traditional straight bar.
The space also features several TVs, exposed brick, dark accent walls, sports memorabilia, neon signage, and custom artwork throughout.

One of the most unique features is an original Lafayette High School scoreboard mounted above an area known as “The Swamp,” a wall of multiple TVs. Co-owner Jared Doise said he discovered the scoreboard while walking through his neighborhood with his family during the holidays after spotting it outside a neighbor’s home. After expressing interest, he was eventually able to acquire the scoreboard, which now serves as a focal point. While it is not yet fully operational, plans are to retrofit it with LED lighting that will allow it to display custom special dates.
Another cool addition is a four-sided “Megatron”-style TV display with rotating LED signage over the pool table, giving the space the feel of a mini sports arena.

Throughout the new Legends space are several custom pieces celebrating Legends’ history across Acadiana. A frosted glass map of Lafayette Parish features each current Legends location with red fleur-de-lis markers. Another wall features hand-painted artwork of every existing Legends storefront, while a custom collection of New Orleans Saints jerseys recognizes every Legends location, past and present. Black jerseys represent current locations, white jerseys represent former locations, and each jersey number corresponds to the year that particular location opened. Above the entrance, a wall of football helmets which adds to the sports-themed atmosphere.

Legends has long been the subject of fun social media jokes throughout the community, often whenever a business closes, thanks to the company’s history of transforming former commercial buildings into a Legends. While many of those locations became successful neighborhood staples, the company has increasingly shifted toward constructing original buildings designed specifically for the Legends brand.
The new Johnston Street location continues that path while keeping the same local sports bar atmosphere that has made Legends a longtime favorite across Lafayette Parish.
