A new Planet Fitness is coming soon to the former Office Depot building at 1879 W. Pinhook Road in Lafayette, Louisiana.
Office Depot closed the Pinhook Road location over the summer of this year, and the building is now undergoing a full interior demolition to clear the way for the new Planet Fitness.
It’s kind of wild to think that an Office Depot couldn’t survive in an area of Lafayette that is so densely populated with offices, especially with the Oil Center near by. But, it just goes to show how much buying habits have changed over the years, presumably with more increased online buying.
One thing you can’t buy online, yet, is a physically fit body.
How the new Planet Fitness could look
Planet Fitness is one of the largest fitness center brands in the country. Honestly, it’s kind of like the Walmart of fitness centers. Then you have places like Club4 Fitness, which feels a little more like the Target of fitness centers.
Earlier this year, in May, we shared that Crunch Fitness is also coming soon to Lafayette in the former Dirt Cheap space at 3324 Ambassador Caffery Parkway.
Not sure if Crunch Fitness would be the Publix or Trader Joe’s of fitness centers, but it definitely falls into the larger big-box fitness category.
And yes, Crunch Fitness is still planned for Lafayette. As of July of this year, additional permit activity was filed for the Ambassador Caffery location as the project continues moving forward.

As for a tentative opening date for the new Planet Fitness, based on the current demolition and buildout activity, we estimate that the new fitness center could be completed near the end of 2026.
Perfect timing to scoop up plenty of those “new year, new me” memberships.
An official opening date has not yet been announced.
