on

A new standalone emergency center by Ochsner Lafayette General is coming soon to 8000 Ambassador Caffery Parkway in Broussard, LA.

The new 14,000-square-foot offsite emergency center is being built to handle a range of emergency needs, including trauma care and patient stabilization before being transported to the main campus. Inside, the facility will feature eight exam bays along with a full suite of imaging services such as ultrasound, X-ray, and CT scanning. On-site lab services will also be available, allowing for more immediate diagnostics and treatment decisions.

The project is designed to expand access to emergency care in south Lafayette Parish, serving Broussard residents, nearby communities, and the steady flow of commuters and travelers along Ambassador Caffery & Hwy 90. The new center is positioned at what is widely considered a key gateway into the southern portion of the parish. The aim for the new emergency center is to provide quicker access to care in an area where response time can be critical.

As part of the Ochsner Lafayette General system, Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center is the region’s only Level II Trauma Center. The new Broussard offsite emergency center will extend that reach into south Lafayette Parish, offering a closer access point for emergency care while remaining connected to the system’s broader network, which serves about 220,000 patients annually and employs roughly 5,500 people locally.

According to Ochsner Lafayette General leadership, the focus of the project is on speed and accessibility. CEO Patrick Gandy has emphasized the importance of proximity to lifesaving care, particularly in emergency situations where minutes can make a difference.

Local officials have voiced support for the development, including Broussard Mayor Ray Bourque, citing the project’s potential to improve emergency response capabilities while also contributing to job creation and broader economic activity. The site is expected to act as an anchor for continued growth along the Ambassador Caffery corridor, which has become one of the more active development areas in the region.

The new Broussard offsite emergency center is currently under construction, with an estimated opening timeline set for summer 2027.
