A new small shopping center is now under construction at 101 Gerald Drive, near the corner of Johnston Street and Gerald Drive in Lafayette, LA.
Plans for the new 9,660-square-foot development, located across from Sterling Automotive, show a modern multi-tenant shopping center with several storefronts, with Bangkok Thai occupying the most prominent anchor space.

Construction activity has recently begun on the property after signage displaying the proposed center had been posted along Johnston Street for several months. Records also show building permits issued for the project earlier this month, with construction valued at more than $2.3 million.
Bangkok Thai currently operates at 3904 Johnston Street, just a few miles from the new development. Will this new Bangkok Thai restaurant replace the existing location or will it be an additional location? That has not been confirmed, unfortunately.
We first reached out about the project earlier this summer after seeing Bangkok Thai included on the plans for the development. At that time, the real estate representative for the property told us that Bangkok Thai was not interested in discussing the project. We recently reached back out again now that construction has started, but were told the restaurant still does not wish to provide additional information. I even called the restaurant and asked about the new location out of curiosity hoping for some sort of confirmation, but was disconnected from the call.

So, for now, there are still several unanswered questions. But, what we do know is that Bangkok Thai has been shown on the publicly displayed plans since the project was first introduced, and construction is now underway on the new multi-tenant center.
Bangkok Thai is a locally owned Thai restaurant known for a variety of noodle dishes, curries, fried rice, soups, and other Thai specialties, with the ability to select different spice levels for many dishes.
