New Lafayette High School Baseball & Softball Complex Under Construction At Former S.J. Montgomery Elementary Site

on

A new Lafayette High School (LHS) baseball and softball complex is coming soon at 600 Foreman Drive in Lafayette, LA, on the former site of S.J. Montgomery Elementary School, directly behind LHS.

The new athletic complex will feature two separate fields for the school’s baseball and softball programs, along with a shared central area featuring concessions, restrooms, and an elevated press box overlooking both fields.

According to construction documents, the project will also include new dugouts, bullpens, batting cages, fencing, backstop and outfield netting, scoreboards, irrigation systems, walkways, parking, and a storage building.

Our aerial photos of the property show lots of  groundwork, with several concrete foundations, block structures, and a covered pavilion that appears to have already been there.

The site was previously home to S.J. Montgomery Elementary School, which was closed as part of the Lafayette Parish School System’s districtwide school consolidation efforts.

According to LPSS, the school board voted to close S.J. Montgomery, repurpose the former Lafayette Middle School campus into Lafayette Elementary, and utilize the former elementary school property for Lafayette High’s new athletic facilities.

This project is another piece of the larger redevelopment of Lafayette High School, which included the construction of a new school campus, football stadium improvements, and the removal of the school’s former baseball and softball fields to accommodate parking for the new campus.

The new LHS Sports Complex is expected to be completed by June of 2027.
