After serving many generations of Lafayette residents for more than 60 years, Corner Pantry has officially closed its longtime location at 801 Foreman Drive as the family-owned business prepares for its next chapter.
The property originally opened as an A&W Drive-In back in May of 1966 before becoming Corner Pantry in 1971. Since then, multiple generations of the same family have operated the neighborhood grocery store, deli, and catering business.

According to Corner Pantry management, the decision to close was driven by the continued challenges of operating a traditional neighborhood grocery store. While the business’s hot food and catering operations remained profitable, declining grocery sales made it increasingly difficult to support the nearly 11,000-square-foot building.
The existing Corner Pantry building at 801 Foreman Drive will be demolished to make way for a new Grab-N-Geaux convenience store. The project has been in the works for more than a year, with both parties working through zoning and permitting requirements before moving forward.
Although the grocery store has closed, Corner Pantry isn’t disappearing.
The family will continue its popular hot food and catering business from a new Corner Pantry location at 203 Winchester Drive, in the former Domino’s Pizza building. The new operation will focus on catering and takeout while continuing to serve many of the same recipes customers have loved for years.

Management says the move allows the business to focus on the side that has remained successful while eliminating the financial burden of operating a grocery store. They also noted that while many longtime customers are sad by the closure, they hope the community will continue supporting them as they begin this new chapter just a short skip away.
An opening date for the new hot food & catering location for Corner Pantry has not been announced.
