A new Dollar General, possibly a DG Market is under construction at 6600 W. University Avenue in North Lafayette Parish.
Based on the size of the building and how it compares to similar models in other regions, the location may potentially be developed as a DG Market, which is a larger-format Dollar General concept that typically includes expanded grocery such as fresh produce, meats, and refrigerated items.

For this location, a DG Market makes total sense being that it would serve as the halfway zone for many near the Sunset/Grand Coteau and the Carencro Walmart. If this location is confirmed as a DG Market, it would be the second location of that format in Lafayette Parish. The first being located along Mills Road north of Scott, LA.

Dollar General locations are generally built on relatively fast timelines. If construction continues at its current pace, the store could be completed within 2-4 months. If we are being honestly tho, this will be open before the Catholics can eat steak again on Friday… or however that works.
