A new Starbucks coffee shop is coming soon to 3300 Johnston Street, where the former Burger Tyme—originally a Wendy’s—is set to be demolished.
Demolition of the former burger spot is expected to begin within the next week or so, coming down as fast as a drive-thru burger.

On Facebook, we made a cryptic post stating, “Once upon a Tyme,” hinting at the pending news about the old building. However, many assumed it meant Burger Tyme was reopening, as there were originally plans for it to return. Others speculated it could be an expansion of Old Tyme Grocery. But from what we’ve gathered, there are no immediate plans to bring back Burger Tyme at this time.

Charles Cornay, a commercial real estate agent for Stirling Properties, called us just as we were taking photos for the post. He shared his excitement for the project, saying it will help make this stretch of Johnston more attractive.

On a real note, you might be wondering: Can Lafayette handle yet another coffee shop? The short answer? Yes. According to some local coffee shop experts, Lafayette is actually underserved compared to the density of coffee shops in other cities. Many of you will probably disagree, but the truth is, lines at some of these places are long. And as Lafayette’s population grows, so will those lines.
The estimated completion date for the new Starbucks could land around early to mid Summer of this year.
