Playa Bowls, a new healthy food option serving açaí, pitaya, coconut bowls, and smoothies is opening its doors this weekend, Saturday, September 7th at 2207 Kaliste Saloom Road in Lafayette, LA.
As New Jersey’s original acai shop, the menu at Playa Bowls is packed with healthy and flavorful options, offering a variety of bowls, smoothies, and fresh juices. You can choose from acai, pitaya, coconut, or green bowls, all loaded with fresh fruit, granola, and toppings like Nutella or almond butter. The smoothies range from fruity blends with acai or pitaya to more unique combos like almond butter and cinnamon. For a boost of greens, the fresh juices mix ingredients like kale, pineapple, ginger, and mint. It’s a perfect spot for a quick, healthy, and customizable lunch for those looking for something that isn’t brown and fried.
Founded in Belmar, New Jersey in 2014, Playa Bowls was a favorite spot for Stephen & Heidi Roma, who lived nearby and frequently rode their bikes to visit the store. Stephen, a New Jersey native, and Heidi, from Opelousas, started their family while living in New Jersey. In 2017, after having four children, they moved to Lafayette, LA, to be closer to Heidi’s family. Now in Lafayette, with their children aged 11 to 17, the family decided to go into business together. During a visit to New Jersey in 2022, Heidi then realized that she wanted to bring their beloved Playa Bowls to Lafayette. Opening this business provides the family a way to get their kids involved and learn about running a business.
Since 2022, Stephen & Heidi have worked toward opening their first Playa Bowls location in Lafayette, with plans to open additional stores in the region.
Fun fact: all of the interior art, including the menu, is hand-painted by Rock Candy Paint Crew. This crew painted the original location and has painted every location since, with over 200 Playa Bowls locations nationwide.
Playa Bowls in Lafayette is having their grand opening this weekend, Saturday, September 7th at 11am. The first 50 customers get a free bowl and custom Playa Bowls t-shirt.
