Root Floral Design, a local floral design business, is planning to uproot from its current Downtown Lafayette storefront at 810 Jefferson Street to a newly acquired property at 1306 Jefferson Street in Lafayette, Louisiana.
The 4,364 square feet 1950s-era property, which was purchased in June 2026 by Root Floral Design owner Mia Sandberg and her husband Robert Sandberg, owner of Lucia Bakehouse, will eventually be divided into two separate spaces.
Root Floral Design will occupy the left-hand side of the building along with the rear addition, which totals around 2,600 square feet. The plans are to install a new fire wall to separate Root from the remaining 1,700-square-foot tenant space that will be available for a future tenant.
The first phase of renovations will focus on the exterior of the building and completing the portion that Root Floral Design will occupy. The remaining tenant space will be renovated once someone is lined up to occupy it.
For those who haven’t heard of Root Floral Design, they are a locally owned floral business specializing in weddings & events, everyday flower arrangements, plants, gifts, and more.
Mia Sandberg started Root Floral Design back in 2012 out of a 245-square-foot shed on her parents’ rural property in Breaux Bridge after ditching her previous career in interior design. By 2013, Root had already outgrown the small shed and eventually moved into Downtown Lafayette.

For nearly a decade, Root was primarily focused on weddings and events. But in 2021, the company expanded into retail, adding plants, gifts, and everyday floral arrangements for walk-in customers.
Now, more than a decade after starting from that small shed in Breaux Bridge, Mia and Robert are investing in their first property with hopes that this will be Root Floral Design’s final move. We’ve heard that line before…
Root Floral Design will remain open at its current 810 Jefferson Street location through the end of December while renovations are completed.
The new 1306 Jefferson Street Root location is tentatively set to open in January 2027.
