Barry’s 1965, a new restaurant is coming soon to Downtown Carencro at 108 E St Peter St., formerly Swanky’s.
Owned by Barry and Rhonda Reeves, Barry’s 1965 is named after its owner, a seasoned restaurateur with over 40 years of experience in the food industry. Barry’s journey in the food industry began at the age of 16. Over the decades, he has owned several successful restaurants, including the Crawfish House & Grill in Opelousas.
Inside looking out
Barry’s 1965 will offer a warm and cozy atmosphere, featuring exposed brick walls, large windows looking out onto Main Street, high ceilings with exposed beams, cement floors, and warm lighting. The restaurant can seat 60 guests inside and 70 on the back patio. The back patio will be used primarily during the crawfish season.
“The restaurant & menu will be elevated & refined, but without the inflated price tag that comes with that,” said Barry Reeves.
The start of a Rooster Gumbo
The menu at Barry’s 1965 will showcase a variety of adventurous and unique dishes that reflect Barry’s culinary creativity, including signature dishes such as Rooster Gumbo, PoGirls (French bread stuffed with a variety of meats, sauces, and vegetables), and BBQ Fried Alligator Legs with a Smokey Yum-yum Sauce.
“We will have a ton of really unique items that the local community will find interesting,” said Reeves. “This isn’t going to be a plate lunch place, there are already some great locals spots that do that well and we support them often. Our menu is going to have things that I like to eat that are a little different, unique things that I think are good, and that my family loves too.”
Barry’s 1965 is tentatively set to open within the next week or so. You can follow their social media at https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61567107635171 to keep up with their opening posts.
