The Natural BirthHouse, Louisiana’s first midwife-owned birth center, will soon relocate & expand from its existing Broussard, LA location into a larger, more accommodating facility in Lafayette’s Oil Center at 715 Coolidge St. Joining them next door is their Medical Director, Dr. Damon Cudihy with Acadiana OBGYN.
The local birth center’s new location is currently undergoing extensive renovations and additions to transform the former Dr. Hayes OBGYN office space into a luxurious, three-suite birth center with a home-like feel, including a small, peaceful courtyard. Dr. Cudihy’s new building is being updated to accommodate his growing practice and new physician partner, Dr. Johnny Voltz.

“Our new birth center focuses around meeting a mama’s true needs in labor- privacy, safety, and peace,” says owner Midwife Kira “CajunStork” Kana.
Each birth suite at the center will be professionally designed and decorated with its own individual theme. Two of the suites will feature large, porcelain birth tubs, while the third will have a nearly 6-foot walk-in shower with heated floors and an unlimited supply of hot water for laboring mothers. All birth suites will be designed for a comfortable and intimate experience, featuring full-size beds, plenty of space to move around, natural lighting, mini-fridges, comfort tools such as birth balls and rebozos, and water births. Birthing mothers are attended only by the two-midwife team that they built a relationship with during their pregnancy, ensuring a private and intimate experience. The center also provides post-birth home visits to assist mothers with breastfeeding and family transitions.
“Our midwives are thrilled to continue to serve our birth community in our beautiful new facility soon to be located seconds from the hospital, says Kana. “With this move, we hope to inspire more pregnant women to come and experience the JOY of a natural birth at our birth center!”
With its new location, the birth center will be just 90 seconds away from Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center in the event of an emergency, compared to its previous 12-minute transport time.
The Natural BirthHouse is tentatively set to move into its new space in March of this year.
