New Mural Celebrating LUS & Lafayette By Local Artist Hannah Gumbo Is Complete

on

This past November, local muralist & artist, Hannah Gumbo, was commissioned to design & paint a mural celebrating the history of LUS & Lafayette.

The mural showcases many landmarks, native animal species, and many other significant attributes specific to our region that together celebrates our way of life and resilience as a region that ultimately took it upon ourselves to power our homes & businesses through the creation of Lafayette Utilities System (LUS).

Mid-progress Photo (see below for finished photos)

The artwork can be seen from the Cajundome side of the Cajun Field tunnel that runs beneath Cajundome Blvd. The exterior (The Wings) of the tunnel is all hand-painted, and through a collaborative effort with Pixus, the mural also runs the length of the tunnel using a vinyl application that will last for years as it is out of direct sunlight.

Additionally, tunnel improvements were made to match the energy of the mural with new, updated lighting, and repaired brick structures.

1-month Progress Panoramic

We are huge fans of Hannah Gumbo and her work throughout the Acadiana region. So when we were told about the project last month, we made sure to make a couple of visits to see the mural come to life. We also had great conversations with Hannah, her husband, and we also met her father! Great, down-to-earth people!
