Kristin Daniel is a young, vibrant Lafayette native that decided to pursue a professional dance career in Los Angeles, California at the age of twenty-one. She eventually found her way back to Lafayette, once the film industry became more prevalent. She also decided to go into the dance, costumes & activewear business, calling it DSTNCT — Dance & Activewear. Starting this company has aligned Kristin’s passions with the passions of young, talented individuals by providing unique clothing options for their performances.
There is no typical day in the life of Kristin, every day is completly different. Some days pull me more towards acting, because I’ll have an audition. Some days pull me more towards teaching. Some days pull me more towards choreography, and others pull me more towards handling stuff for the dance, and activewear, and costumes. Every day is different, and that’s why I love what I do.
When it comes to designing for the brand, DSTNCT, Kristin takes in many forms of inspiration spanning from building architecture to modern clothing fashion, and even nature. And although inspiration is great, and needed, it’s those whom you surround yourself with that really help you get to where you desire to go in life. For Kristin, it’s people like her parents, her brother, other choreographers, high school teachers, and those that have believed in her through life.
Nothing ever truely gets easier.
Kristin is a dreamer, and dreamers always look on the brighter side of things. When asked what advice she would give her younger self, she says, “Nothing ever truly gets easier. It’s all about your prospective, and how you look at things.” We are all finding our way through life, and to understand that nothing gets easier is just a way of life, then you are free to view life in a different way. A way that is always looking toward a greater outcome than where you are in the moment. #Goals.
