The historic Davidson Memorial Methodist Church, located at 710 Jefferson Blvd in Lafayette’s Sterling Grove Historic District, is set to become The Wilyard, a premier wedding and event venue.
In 2022, the historic property was set to become the new home for Basin Arts. However, as with such projects, things often change for one reason or another. Local entrepreneur Cameron Theyard, along with his mother, Nicole Theyard, a lifelong educator, is transforming the historic property into a destination wedding and event venue. The Wilyard will highlight the beauty of the space by preserving the original flooring, shiplap walls, and stained-glass windows while offering modern amenities for event planners and caterers. The property will feature a chapel, bridal suite, stylish cocktail bar, and a picturesque courtyard reception space.
If you know Cameron, you know that everything he touches becomes a work of art. His studio, along with his marketing studio called “The Yard” — a creative nod to his last name, Theyard — is a beautiful space. We fully expect this historic location to be transformed while still preserving its rich history.

“We are incredibly proud to play a role in the revitalization of this important landmark,” said Cameron Theyard. “The venue and our plans for it are about more than just hosting events; they are about honoring history, fostering community, and creating a space where love and legacy meet.”
Originally built in 1941 by an all-Black battalion at Camp Claiborne, the chapel was relocated to Lafayette in 1947 following the camp’s closure. It became Davidson Memorial Methodist Church, serving the community until 1987, and later operated as House of Faith Full Gospel Church until its sale in 2022. Now, Cameron and Nicole Theyard are leading its transformation into The Wilyard, honoring the building’s history while bringing new life to the space. Their vision aligns with ongoing revitalization efforts in Northside Lafayette, including those led by developer Ravi Daggula to preserve the area’s historic properties.

For a first look at this transformation, developer Ravi Daggula has included the venue in his slate of open houses on March 21, 2025, kicking off the Sterling Grove Festival on March 21-22. Guests will have the opportunity to tour the space, view design plans, and meet the visionaries behind the project.
