The former Books-A-Million space, located at 4419 Ambassador Caffery, is currently under construction and being subdivided to become a new 17,000-square-foot multi-unit shopping center.
Back in 2023, we broke the news of a 2nd & Charles used bookstore coming soon to the River Marketplace shopping center aka the Super Target center in Lafayette, Louisiana. In that post, we made note that Books-A-Million, the parent company of 2nd & Charles, would be closing its Lafayette store shortly after. And now that Books-A-Million is officially closed, lots of you guys have been asking what is happening to the former retailer space as the space is being completely gutted like a fresh game after a kill. Hopefully, this post will help you on your journey for some answers!
The very few details that are currently available to us for the newly under-construction space is that it is being subdivided into 4 separate units or tenant space. Each space is +/-4,000 square feet with 3 Ambassador-facing storefronts and 1 shopping center-facing storefront, according to initial plans.

Will anything “exciting” come about with these newly added spaces, only time will tell. As of now, they are all still available with no tenants being fed to us. Though, this will all soon change as this is prime real estate in a part of town dubbed “Little Houston”.
