Beausoleil Books, a downtown Lafayette institution for several years, has recently been acquired by John and Michelle Cavalier. The well-known downtown bookstore will be rebranded as Cavalier House Books, located at 302A Jefferson Street, Lafayette, LA.

Beausoleil Books first opened in 2020: https://developinglafayette.com/wp/beausoleil-books-a-new-downtown-lafayette-book-store-concept-is-coming-soon-to-fill-a-void-left-since-the-1970s/

The Cavaliers have owned and operated Cavalier House Books in Denham Springs for 15 years, and they are thrilled to bring their passion for books and community to the Lafayette community. They deeply respect the legacy of Beausoleil Books and are committed to honoring its role as a beloved community space. The previous owners of Beausoleil Books, Bryan, James, Haley, Blair, and Endya, have entrusted this special space to the Cavaliers, who are dedicated to maintaining the exceptional service and welcoming environment that Beausoleil Books is known for.

“We are certainly sad that Bryan, James, Haley, Blair, and Endya have moved on, but we hope to continue this epic journey they began! And don’t worry, they have all promised to visit when they come to town,” said The Cavaliers.

Recognizing the cultural significance of Beausoleil Books to the local Lafayette community, the Cavaliers are sensitive to existing customers and aim to ensure a seamless transition. Longtime staff members Lauren and Ashley will remain with the bookstore, ensuring continuity of service and helping to keep the transition smooth for all customers. And, Beausoleil Books gift cards will continue to be honored at the new Cavalier House Books location.

As for the physical space, The Whisper Room will not be reopening due to the closure of its kitchen, but the bookstore will be expanding to twice its current square footage, offering an even greater selection of books. The rich history and culture of Louisiana will be prominently featured in the bookstore’s offerings, reflecting the Cavaliers’ dedication to celebrating the legacy of the Acadians and Louisiana as a whole.

“The legacy of Beausoleil Books will absolutely remain,” said the Cavaliers. “We have been throwing around tons of ideas from a possible book club, a bookish subscription box, to a Lafayette book festival! The sky is the limit but we absolutely want Beausoleil to be a part of our bookshop!”

The official reopening is tentatively scheduled for early August. The company states that should you need to pick up an order or if you have a pressing bookish emergency! Call their shop at (337) 534-8233 or email info@cavalierhousebooks.com.
