Agave Mexican Grill & Cantina has reopened its original Downtown Lafayette location at 200 E. Vermilion Street after a six month closure to complete a full interior renovation and minor patio updates.
The restaurant, located across from Parc Sans Souci, has operated in Downtown Lafayette for over 23 years. While Agave has expanded to additional locations throughout Lafayette Parish, including Camellia Boulevard, Bertrand Drive, and Youngsville, the downtown site remains the original location.

Exterior

Renovations focused primarily on the interior, replacing the previously darker, rustic design with a brighter, more open layout. Updates include new furniture, new fireplace, updated artwork, and squared openings in place of archways. The space now features lighter tones with a mix of whites, blues, and reds, while maintaining some of its original rustic elements.
The exterior of the building remains largely unchanged. The patio received updated furniture as part of the renovation.

Interior

Agave continues to operate under the same ownership since opening, maintaining a consistent presence in the local restaurant market.
Alongside the updated space, the restaurant also introduced some new menu items! These menu items include the Diablo chicken salad on a bed of mixed greens topped with lightly fried, breaded chicken breast coated in a slightly spicy “Diablo” sauce. A Diablo shrimp option is also available, offering a similar preparation with shrimp. The Acadiana burger includes grilled shrimp topped with queso, served on a slightly sweet bun.

The Acadiana Burger
Another featured item is the meat trio nachos served over seasoned French fries rather than traditional tortilla chips. The dish includes grilled chicken, seasoned ground beef, and steak, combined with sautéed bell peppers and onions, and finished with queso cheese.

Tres Carnes Nachos
We also got the queso topped with seasoned ground beef, pico de gallo, guacamole, and sliced jalapeños, alongside chips and salsa. You can also get margarita flights featuring multiple flavors such as traditional, strawberry, raspberry, and Blue Mesa.

Margarita Flight
With its reopening, the Downtown Agave continues as a central location near Parc Sans Souci, an area that includes public green space, seating, and a nearby playground, contributing to consistent foot traffic in the surrounding downtown district.
