New Harvest Community Church Campus Planned for Former Grocery Store Site on Simcoe Street

on

A new campus for Harvest Community Church is planned for 819 E. Simcoe Street in Lafayette, at the site of a former beauty retailer and the original Piggly Wiggly/Winn-Dixie building.

The church currently operates at 903 E. Simcoe Street, directly across from the project site, and has outgrown its existing space. The new church project is intended to expand capacity and provide additional space for ministry and community use.

Projects like this, and others currently underway in the Sterling Grove district of Lafayette, LA, will serve as catalysts for increased community engagement and investment opportunities.

Designed by A Beazley Architecture, the project includes the renovation of an existing 12,500-square-foot structure into a 15,000-square-foot worship and community facility. Total construction cost is estimated at $5.1 million across two phases.

Plans for the new campus include a sanctuary with seating for approximately 300 to 350 people, along with a nursery and classrooms serving children through 5th grade. The layout also includes a café-style gathering space, administrative offices, and a multipurpose room.

A second phase of the project includes a dedicated youth ministry component featuring a full-size indoor basketball court with bleachers, a concession area, and a workout space.

The design updates the existing structure with a more modern layout, improved lighting, and flexible interior spaces to support a range of church and community activities.

The project is being developed with A Beazley Architecture’s ARK Design System, which focuses on clear scope definition, ongoing stakeholder input, and maintaining alignment with project budget and timeline throughout design and construction.

Initial development plans are still in the works, but once the new facility is complete, the existing sanctuary across the street is expected to be repurposed for youth services and additional programming.
