A new Brazilian steakhouse, called Santa Picanha, is coming soon to 406 Garfield Street in Downtown Lafayette.
The new restaurant will bring authentic Southern Brazilian steak to Lafayette with a focus on charcoal-grilled Churrasco meats and traditional Gaúcho staples.
Santa Picanha is founded by Gustavo Rosenstengel, who was born in Porto Alegre in Southern Brazil and has been sharing the culinary taste and customs of his heritage since 2002. His passion for Churrasco began early, helping at family cookouts around the age of nine. After cooking through college and catering Brazilian-style barbecue events for more than a decade, Gustavo is now fulfilling his dream of creating a space where friends, family, and the Lafayette community can experience authentic Gaúcho cuisine and culture.

Unlike the typical all-you-can-eat Brazilian steakhouse model, Santa Picanha introduces an à-la-carte Churrasco experience, allowing guests to choose exactly what they want and order their favorite meats by weight. The approach makes the experience more customizable and approachable while still delivering the bold, traditional flavors of Brazilian grilling. The restaurant also embraces a casual atmosphere, intentionally moving away from the formal, white-tablecloth setting often associated with Churrascarias.
The menu centers on charcoal-grilled items such as picanha (fatty beef sirloin), skirt steak, lamb, pork, chicken, Brazilian sausages, and grilled vegetables. Guests can pair their selections with classic sides including rice, beans, collard greens, potato salad, garlic bread, roasted potatoes, farofa, chimichurri, and more. Appetizers, salads, desserts, and lunch options will also be available.

Construction and inspections are nearing completion, and while the opening date is not yet fully confirmed, the team is aiming for the week of December 15.
