The Alycat Series, written by Lafayette-based author Alysson Foti Bourque, is a collection of children’s books that guides children through embracing individuality, celebrating differences, and fostering collaboration to overcome obstacles.
Alysson Foti Bourque, a former Assistant Attorney General in Lafayette, found her passion for writing after crafting bedtime stories for her children. Drawing inspiration from her experiences and the charm of Acadiana, she transitioned from law to literature, establishing herself as an established children’s author.
“One evening, my children asked for more books for storytime as they had read every book on their overflowing bookshelf. I looked at the books on the shelf and the floor and simply told them I could write them a story for the next night,” said Bourque. “They jumped for joy and thought that it was a great idea. Because they believed in me, I believed in myself. We said our “goodnights” and I took out a piece of paper and began to write. The story unfolded as I channeled my childhood and my own children’s daily life experiences.”

Since its founding in 2016, the Alycat Series has captured the hearts of readers with its endearing characters and uplifting narratives. Through Alycat and her friends, readers learn valuable life skills such as problem-solving and courage. Each story underscores the importance of embracing individuality, celebrating differences, and fostering collaboration to overcome obstacles.
The Alycat Series has earned 22 awards, been featured on iTunes and YouTube, and recognized in prestigious events like the Grammy’s Swag Bag and Oscar’s Gift Bag. It’s also been featured in People Magazine and on a New York Times Square Billboard. Bourque’s collaborations include ventures with Duchess Sarah Ferguson, cementing her status as a cherished figure in children’s literature.
What began in 2016 as a bedtime story has expanded into a seven-book series, with an eighth book slated for release in 2025.
To celebrate the launch of “Alycat and the Sunday Scaries,” the Alycat team invites families to join them at The Little Gym of Lafayette on March 24th, 2024, from 2-5pm, for a free, immersive Book Launch Party featuring interactive activities and special guests. Families can enjoy free play in The Little Gym of Lafayette, face painting, a reading by Acadiana’s Mother Goose, cute critters from Safari Station, a visit with Dr. Champagne from Cat Clinic of Lafayette, Raising Cane’s #012 chicken fingers and lemonade, Josey’s Goods, Hello Cupcake Bakery, select performances by Music Academy of Acadiana students, and photos with SelfieBot!
