The N. University Underpass will soon look a lot better as a revitalization project kicks off today and lasting about 60 working days.Shot of the University Ave. underpass today.
This project consists of a good pressure washing, sealing, and painting of the walls of the underpass. And as a welcome to travelers entering the City of Lafayette, “Bienvenue” will be painted on the structure. See Rendering Below.

We are hoping for a welcome sign at I-10 & I-49, but that’s for another day.
Early in his administration, Lafayette Mayor-President Joel Robideaux identified the University Avenue corridor as a priority project and has been working towards its revitalization. “The University Corridor is a crucial gateway to our community and is worthy of reinvestment. It is my hope that with renewed focus, we can begin the process of returning this area to its former cultural, social and economic status for those who live, work and travel along the corridor.”
The revitalization project is expected to take 60 working days with weather permitting. Work will take place at night and will not affect daytime traffic routes. Lane closures will last from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. until the project’s competition. Paragon Construction Services of America is the contractor that is performing the underpass revitalization work.
The tentative completion of the project is expected to be in November.
