This week an exciting project was announced called, “Project Front Yard“. The project is designed to promote a mass cleaning spree if you will, something that is a serious need in this wonderful city. The Advertiser said exactly what I believe many of us are thinking, “Lafayette’s a great place to live and work, but the first impression it gives is not so great: Fast food bags are scattered along roadsides, cigarette butts are dumped at stop lights, gateways into the city are lackluster and there’s no public art.” These are only some of the many landscape issues that plague this city. One in particular, is the gateway to our city at I-49 & I-10. There are many old abandoned buildings in this area that could be dealt with either by repurposing or demolishing. Another spot that needs some TLC is the four corners area located at University & Cameron. The Lesspay Motel there could use some help too, It is partially closed off in the back and another part hasn’t be used in years it seems. All in all, I believe this is great and I can’t wait to see the outcome. Remember, you and I live here, so it’s up to all of us to do our part in this effort of cleaning up Lafayette.
