A new family entertainment concept called Playtopia is coming soon to 1515 Ambassador Caffery in Lafayette, Louisiana.
Playtopia will feature a large indoor sandbox, one of its most distinctive attractions, allowing children to dig, build, and explore in a safe, climate-controlled setting. In addition to the sandbox, the facility will include an indoor RC racetrack, an RC four-wheel pit, and a construction pit where kids can operate RC construction vehicles, giving them a hands-on experience that blends fun with discovery.
Owner Angela Galer says Playtopia will also include a soft play area, a dedicated wall for RC lizards, and a cozy “book nook” designed for relaxation and reading. The book nook will follow a take-a-book, leave-a-book concept, encouraging families to share and exchange their favorite reads while spending quality time together.
Unlike traditional family entertainment centers that focus on high-energy activities such as inflatable jump houses, trampoline parks, or rope courses, Playtopia takes a calmer, more imaginative approach. The experience emphasizes creative play, exploration, and parent-child connection rather than purely physical activity. With elements like sand play, RC vehicle operation, and reading areas, Playtopia is designed to engage both mind and motor skills in a way that’s fun, inclusive, and accessible for a wider range of ages.
In addition to play areas, Playtopia will offer birthday party zones, along with drinks and snacks available for purchase. The overall goal, Galer explains, is to create “a really cool place for kids and their parents.”
Construction is currently underway, and sand deliveries to the space have already sparked curiosity on social media.
Tentatively, Playtopia is expected to open by late November or early December of this year.
