Pat’s Downtown Closing; New Plate Lunch Concept, Gravy, Coming Soon to Downtown Lafayette

on

A new plate lunch concept called Gravy is coming soon to 107 E. Main Street in downtown Lafayette, in the space currently occupied by Pat’s Downtown.

The new restaurant will be operated by the same ownership group behind Pamplona, which is located on the same corner of Jefferson Street and East Main Street. While early speculation suggested the project could be an expansion of Pamplona, Gravy will operate as a separate and distinct concept under the same ownership.

The transition follows the major retirement announcement of Patrick Dupuis, owner of Pat’s Downtown, who recently shared that he has decided to step away from the restaurant industry after more than 30 years in business. Pat’s Downtown has long been a staple of downtown Lafayette’s lunch scene and community life, with several employees having worked at the restaurant for more than two decades.

“After 30 unforgettable years, I’ve made the hard but heartfelt decision to retire,” said Dupuis. “Your smiles, stories, and patronage have made this more than just a restaurant; it’s been a home.”

In his public statement, Dupuis noted that the final day of service for Pat’s Downtown will be Friday, January 30, and confirmed that the Pamplona ownership group will be expanding into the property.

According to Drew Payne, co-owner of Pamplona and general manager of Gravy, the new restaurant will focus heavily on plate lunches while honoring both Pat’s Downtown and Lafayette’s lunch culture.

The menu for Gravy is expected to include items such as meatball stew, sticky chicken, burgers, sandwiches, and lighter options including bowls, wraps, and salads, with some international influences. Payne stated that the concept is rooted in maintaining the same level of commitment and attention to detail that the team applies at Pamplona.

Gravy will be operated by the same core team currently running Pamplona. Kris Allen will serve as executive chef, Philippe Callais will oversee front-of-house operations, and Payne will act as general manager.

Initially, approximately half of the existing space at 107 E. Main Street will be utilized for Gravy. Following Festival International, the group plans to begin work on a second phase of the project, which will introduce a cocktail lounge in the remaining portion of the building.

Additional details regarding the opening timeline and build-out are expected to be announced at a later date.
