Inside The New Asian Market, Now Open in Lafayette, Louisiana

on

The Asian Market, formerly located at 100 Arnould Blvd, is now open at its new location at 119 Tucker Drive, in the former Old Navy space.

TL:DR: After quietly opening with “Now Open” signs, the market quickly gained attention. The new location features expanded offerings, including unique snacks, fresh produce, live seafood (like crab, lobster, and eel), and kitchenware. It’s modern, spacious, and bustling with activity—worth a visit!

We originally posted about the Asian Market’s plans to relocate to Tucker Drive back in September 2022. At that time, the plan was to construct a brand-new building. However, something amazing happened—Old Navy decided to vacate its Tucker Drive space for “greener pastures” on the Southside, next to Costco in the former Off Broadway Shoe space. This newly vacant spot allowed the Asian Market to move into a larger space without the added expense of building from scratch. It’s a win-win!

For months, the hype surrounding the new Asian Market has been growing, with many in the community wondering when it would finally open. Without much warning or a marketing blast from the company, they quietly put up “Now Open” signs at the street’s edge—and the community definitely took notice.

After hearing the news today, we decided to take a trip to check it out. When we pulled into the parking lot, it was as busy as Old Navy’s during a major blowout sale! Parking was competitive, but that didn’t stop us from finding a spot to head inside.

Walking into the new Asian Market was an overwhelming experience at first. There were lots of products, lots of people, and plenty of sensory stimulation. From the sights and sounds to the unique smells, we found ourselves wandering around with no particular goal—just soaking it all in. As typical Americans, we naturally gravitated toward the snack section, grabbing several items to try, not knowing if we’d like them or not.

We also explored the fruits and vegetables section, which had plenty of unique offerings. Then we found ourselves in the meats area, which featured a wide variety of meats and seafood, both live and on ice. Some of the live seafood included large crabs, lobsters, and even eels—definitely not something you’d find at Super 1 Foods!

In addition to groceries, the Asian Market carries a huge selection of pots, bowls, utensils, and other items you might not expect. Overall, this new location is much larger and more modern than the previous one, offering an authentic grocery market experience with contemporary touches.

Check out the new Asian Market for yourself and see what all the excitement is about!

Below is a little haul. It’s not much but, it was fun checking out a few new things!
