Grounded Coffee, a locally owned coffee shop founded in Sunset, Louisiana, about six months ago, is expanding with a second location coming soon to 3414 N. University Avenue in Lafayette.
The new location, just south of the Gloria Switch and North University Avenue intersection, will occupy the now-former Scott Oak Cleaners building. Scott Oak Cleaners consolidated into their main location in Scott, LA.
Plans for the space include light renovations to convert the building into a coffee shop, with a strong emphasis on adding a drive-through due to the building’s smaller footprint. This move is on par with current coffee shop trends. The drive-through is expected to be a primary feature of the Lafayette location, with no customer access indoors.

Grounded Coffee’s menu focuses on classic coffeehouse offerings alongside flavor-forward specialty drinks. The shop serves drip coffee, Americanos, lattes, cappuccinos, and hot or iced tea, with drinks available hot, iced, or frozen. Specialty coffees include house flavors such as Truffle (caramel and chocolate), Nutty Bar (chocolate and hazelnut), French Toast (brown sugar, cinnamon, and salted caramel), and Honeymoon (white chocolate, almond, honey, and vanilla), along with a build-your-own option featuring a wide selection of syrups and flavor add-ins. The menu also includes matcha drinks, expanding non-coffee options. Food offerings are geared toward grab-and-go breakfast items, including croissants with bacon, egg, and cheese or sausage, egg, and cheese, as well as a boudin croissant, typical of Cajuns. They also offer muffins, including blueberry and banana nut, to round out the food menu.

According to the owners, the North University Avenue site was selected in part due to its location along the Carencro Mardi Gras parade route. The visibility and foot traffic associated with the parade played a role in the decision, particularly for future menu items.
The original Grounded Coffee location in Sunset will remain operating in its current form for now. However, the owners say the Sunset shop may enter a future expansion phase at a later date.
No official opening date has been announced yet. As with most projects, timelines are subject to permitting, construction, and other variables.
