A Texas-based chicken restaurant, called Golden Chick, is coming soon to the City of Scott, Louisiana. The standalone restaurant will be located in front of Super 1 Foods at Destination Pointe, next to the Super 1 Fueling Station, at 215 LA Hwy 93.
Golden Chick, originally Golden Fried Chicken, was founded by Howard and Jacque Walker in 1967 in San Marcos, Texas. Known for their made-from-scratch recipes and meticulous marination, their commitment to quality quickly garnered a loyal following, leading to the expansion across Central Texas. In 1989, the Parmerlee family purchased the chain, fostering its growth to nearly 200 locations across five states. Innovations like the Original Golden Tender™ in 1985 and Golden Roast in 1993, along with a modern menu featuring freshly baked yeast rolls and premium salads, have kept Golden Chick at the forefront of the fast-food industry while staying true to its Texan roots.
Inside shot of Golden Chick
Golden Chick’s menu features items like their hand-battered Golden Tenders®, Golden Roast chicken, Southern Fried Catfish, and a variety of sandwiches, including the Big & Golden® and the Texas Pecan Chicken Salad Sandwich. They also have fresh salads like the Chicken Salad Salad, Tender Salad, and Garden Salad, which is something you do not see much of in most chicken joints. For sides, you’ll find freshly baked yeast rolls, mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, green beans, fried okra, and more, making for a well-rounded experience with a range of choices.
Golden Roasted Chicken
What sets Golden Chick apart from competitors like Popeye’s and Raising Cane’s is its broader menu. While Popeye’s is known for its seasoned fried chicken rooted in Louisiana culture and Cane’s which sticks strictly to chicken fingers, Golden Chick offers a wider range of chicken options, including the healthier Golden Roast Chicken, as well as Southern Fried Catfish and fresh salads. Golden Chick also prides itself on its hand-battered chicken, which is marinated for a richer flavor. Though, Popeye’s & Cane’s marinates their chicken as well. Ultimately, Golden Chick offers menu items that are not fried like salads, and roasted chicken. This differentiator is what will inevitably drive South Louisiana customers to their restaurant who are searching for something a little different.
While there isn’t any way to estimate construction, we can share that according to the City of Scott, construction is expected to begin sometime in 2025. Once construction starts, the build-out of Golden Chick of Scott should be completed within 6 months.
