A new bar called Grand Marché Bar, according to a close source, is coming soon to the former Plaza Theatre/Nightclub space at 4509 Johnston Street.
Let me preface with this, this project is giving “not revealing the actual name yet” vibes. While our close source is saying Grand Marché Bar, public documents regarding this bar are unnamed, which leads us to believe that this isn’t the actual name. Because let’s be so for real here, Grand Marché Bar sounds like a placeholder name in anticipation of the actual name. I guess we will have to wait and see.
How crazy would it be if The Plaza came back?! Now, I was not here when The Plaza was around. When I was 19, I came to Lafayette for Graham Central Station. That place had a chokehold on me! The fact that it had 4 different bar sections under one roof was wild. Sections like a country/line dancing section, a karaoke section, a disco section, and my favorite, the EDM/Techno section. Graham was a vibe. Now it’s a Rouses.
As for this project, they are doing a lot of work renovating the space and it’s looking good, honestly.
I wish I would have more to offer than this but, no one involved is talking much about it. I even reached out to Legends to see if they bought it. I didn’t get any response. So this will remain sort of a surprise until the sign goes up on the building.
