Carencro’s sports complex, Pelican Park, located at 110 Softball Dr., is temporarily closed to make way for the early stages of construction on its long-awaited new concession stand and restrooms pavilion.
The new pavilion comes after the park’s previous concession/restroom facility suffered fire damage in May 2023, which led to the complete demolition of the building. Read more: TheAdvocate.com.

Since then, city officials have considered several options for rebuilding the much-needed structure. Factors such as budget, modern building codes, and park needs were carefully reviewed, contributing to the delay.
The new single-story Pelican Park pavilion will span a total of 2,688 square feet—or 3,682 square feet if you include the surrounding canopy. The full-service concession stand will feature a walk-in cooler and freezer, grills, fryers, soda dispensers, and snack stations, ensuring quick service for hungry players and families. The large covered area will provide plenty of shaded space, along with vending machines and drinking fountains for added convenience.

The restrooms will be spacious and fully ADA-compliant, complete with diaper-changing stations in both the men’s and women’s restrooms, hand dryers, and accessible stalls. Built for durability, the facility will feature sealed concrete flooring, moisture-resistant walls, and a sturdy metal roof designed to withstand 130 mph winds—or the occasional foul ball.

The new pavilion will be a welcome addition and improvement for the local community, as well as for visitors coming in for tournaments.
“We will resume activities at Pelican Park in the month of March,” said Carencro City Mayor Charlotte Clavier. “Initially, we planned for March 1, but it will be a little later. The freeze pushed us back. So, I’d say by March 15, we will resume using the park during construction.”
Clavier also noted other projects around Carencro, including the remodel of the former Carencro Police Station to become the new Carencro City Hall Annex. She also mentioned plans for updates to the front of Carencro Park, including renovations to the tennis court to accommodate both tennis and pickleball, as well as upgrades to the basketball court.
