Buc-ee’s Construction Resumes in Lafayette After Months of Delays

on

Construction is back underway this week on the future Buc-ee’s in Lafayette after being stalled for several months. The site, located just off I-10 at Louisiana Avenue, is once again active with dirt work and grading.

Recent reports pointing to a 2028 opening have led to some confusion in the community. That timeline refers to when the store is expected to open, not when construction would resume. The groundwork seen today is part of the early preparation that leads to vertical building.

Once complete, the Lafayette Buc-ee’s will span about 74,000 square feet, making it one of the largest locations in the Gulf South. Plans call for 120 fuel pumps, more than 700 parking spaces, and EV charging stations on the 42-acre property.

The project represents an $82 million investment, with $12.5 million earmarked for surrounding infrastructure improvements. While the timeline has shifted, officials have confirmed the project is moving forward.

Originally expected to open in 2026, the timeline is now extended by about two years. Still, with crews back on site, progress is visible and construction is expected to continue as conditions allow.
